Enrolling Your Child
Parents enrolling a student for the first time should bring the child's birth certificate, immunization record and social security number. By state law, a child must be five years old on or before Sept. 1 of the current school year to enter kindergarten and six years of age on or before Sept. 1 to enter first grade.
A prekindergarten program for qualifying four year olds is available at the L.P. Waters Early Childhood Center. The district may accept students living outside the district on a tuition-free basis.
In addition to age requirements, a record of the following immunizations signed by a physician or validated by the State Department of Health must be presented before a child enters school:
Transportation is also available for most Greenville ISD students. Information on eligibility and which school bus to ride, pickup times and locations are available from the Transportation Office (903-457-2658).
Greenville ISD accepts, at no cost, students living outside the district. Applications for transfer must be completed through the Director for Student Services office at (903-408-4431). A transfer form from the Texas Education Agency must also be completed. In cases of elementary transfers, placement may be based on student populations and class-size requirements.
Students identified as homeless are allowed to enroll immediately while awaiting official records.
