Enrolling Your Child

Parents enrolling a student for the first time should bring the child's birth certificate, immunization record and social security number. By state law, a child must be five years old on or before Sept. 1 of the current school year to enter kindergarten and six years of age on or before Sept. 1 to enter first grade.

A prekindergarten program for qualifying four year olds is available at the L.P. Waters Early Childhood Center. The district may accept students living outside the district on a tuition-free basis.

In addition to age requirements, a record of the following immunizations signed by a physician or validated by the State Department of Health must be presented before a child enters school:

Polio (OPV)

- 4 doses, unless the third dose was on or after third birthday.

DPT/DPaT/DT (Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus Toxoid)
- 5 doses of any combination DTaP/DTP unless the fourth dose was given on or after fourth birthday.
- Students seven years or older: 3 doses of any combination DTP/DTaP/DT/Td vaccine (pertussis vaccine is not required). 1 dose of Td required ten years after last dose of
DTP/DTaP/DT.

MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella)

- 2 doses of a measles-containing vaccine with the first dose on or after the first birthday; second dose by age five or entry into kindergarten.

Hepatitis B

- 3 doses are required for all grades.

Varicalla Vaccine

- 1 dose on or after first birthday for all grades.

Transportation is provided for students residing beyond a two-mile radius of their respective schools.  Information on which school bus to ride, pickup times and locations are available from the Transportation Office (903-457-2658).

Greenville ISD accepts, at no cost, students living outside the district. Applications for transfer must be completed through the Executive Director for Personnel’s office at (903-457-2511). A transfer form from the Texas Education Agency must also be completed. In cases of elementary transfers, placement may be based on student populations and class-size requirements.
