A Greenville High School choral group earned rave reviews at a recent UIL meet and is bound for state competition.
Daybreak - the high school’s show choir - earned high marks at the regional University Interscholastic League Solo & Ensemble contest. Daybreak earned a first division rating and qualified for state competition later this spring.
In addition, several members of Daybreak qualified for state competition by earning a first division rating on Class I solos. These students will compete in the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest, set for the University of Texas at Austin in late May.
Solo & Ensemble was held this year at Sachse High School. Students prepared and memorized a solo off the Prescribed Music List to be sung for a judge. The judge gave the performance a rating of I-V with I being the best.
Daybreak members will compete at the state level with "Sing We and Chant It," a madrigal by Thomas Morley. Daybreak members are Rae Ann Blue, Alicia Edwards, Chase Gladdin, Spencer Hill, Catlin Hopson, Alicia Kobylecky, Julie Latimer, Ashley McClellan, Peyton Patterson, Sydney Phillips, Justin Stangohr and Sarah Tyler.
The following members of Daybreak will compete with solos at the state level: Peyton Patterson, Sydney Phillips, Alicia Edwards, Sarah Tyler and Ashley McClellan.
Other students that competed at the regional level of solo and ensemble and received "I" as their rating were Angelia Landers, Stephanie Sliger, Sarah Baucom, Tess Knudson, Veronica Pena and Caitlin Thompson.
The Freshmen Girls small ensemble also received a "I" for their entry. That ensemble includes Sarah Baucom, Tess Knudson, Netty Cerda, Heather Keener and Veronica Pena.
