Travis Elementary, located at 3005 Division Street, has always aimed for excellence and provides a positive learning experience for self-esteem and good character, while challenging students to learn and enjoy learning.
Caring volunteers - including but not limited to members of the school's PTA - have long been a great resource and help with a variety of tasks including music, computer labs and the teacher workroom. They also bring snacks for class parties, help with student work and assist with field trips, RIF book distributions and numerous other special activities. A number of volunteers tutor one on one with exciting results in individual performance.
Travis promotes achievement by rewarding students for their outstanding work. Come to Travis and you will see a large bucket filled with “drops”. Our students earn drops for exciting rewards. Our office is filled daily with excited students waiting to get their coveted hug from our secretary and to place their drop in the big bucket.
The atmosphere at Travis promotes learning in a way that is both educational for students as well as rewarding for staff and community. Nothing is impossible at Travis Elementary!
The Texas Education Grant, Homeless Grant and Optional Extended Year Program are used to help with tutoring, standardized dress and student supplies. Kavanaugh United Methodist Church sponsors an after-school boys and girls program, KavaKids, solely for the benefit of Travis Elementary. Homework help, computer lab access, one-on-one tutoring and various enrichment activities benefit the 30 students who attend daily.
The school’s counselor volunteers once a week at the KavaKids site. There is regular email communication between Kava Kids and teachers.
Travis is also honored to be a recipient of the Texas Educator's Excellence Grant. Various grant activities such as tutoring, mentoring and collaboration are used to improve student performance.
