Some of the city’s youngest academic stars got a well-deserved pat on the back from Greenville ISD’s Board of Trustees earlier this month.
Elementary students from Bowie, Travis and Crockett Elementary were guests of honor at the February 23 school board meeting, where they received honors for their recent performance at the University Interscholastic League Academic meet.
Local students turned in solid performances, with many winning Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and other students placing. Students from Lamar Elementary, Carver Elementary and the Sixth Grade Center will be honored at a future meeting.
School officials have in the past said starting the program at the elementary level can strengthen the upper-level programs as well. The program can “build upon itself” until students reach the high school-level competitions, which can result in students earning scholarships for their performance.
Below are students that reached 1st-6th place in individual or team events.
