Education helps create a new world for children.  The L.P. Waters Early Childhood Learning Center, which operates the Hunt County Head Start and Early Childhood programs, is committed to creating that new world by providing quality child development services to eligible children in Hunt County.

L.P. Waters houses Greenville ISD’s three and four year old students, with an annual enrollment of about 300 students.

L.P. Waters helps all children succeed.  Children with disabilities are welcomed, and the special education program of Greenville ISD works closely with the school to provide appropriate services for each child with a disability.  The school provides children with activities that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally and physically.

The staff recognizes that parents are the first and most important teachers of children.  Parental involvement is welcome in all activities, and parents work as partners to help children progress.

Staff members offer children their love, acceptance, understanding, and the chance to learn and to experience success.

Children socialize with others and solve problems which help them become self-confident.  The children also improve listening and speaking skills.  Children spend time in stimulating settings where they form good habits and enjoy playing and working on tasks with classmates.  Children leave L.P. Waters more prepared for kindergarten and ready to succeed.

Children receive health wellness exams by skilled professionals.  Also arranged are vision and hearing tests, dental follow-up and immunizations.

Classroom time includes different activities.  Some teachers begin the day by asking the children to sit in a circle.  This encourages children to talk and share with others.

Part of each day involves children planning their activities.  They may choose among art, playing with blocks or table toys, science activities, dancing to music, looking at books, or pretend housekeeping.  Children can switch activities if they prefer another challenge.

Each day, they have time to work in a small group with other children and to play outdoors on safe playground equipment.  At lunch, children receive a nutritious meal and brush their teeth.  All children are taught to wash their hands before meals and after, thereby developing good health habits.
