SGC Lionettes named Grand Champions

At the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year, The Greenville 6th Grade Center hired a new math teacher with a very unique gift. Not only does Abigail Wing love to teach math, she is also extremely passionate about teaching the art of dance. Within the ACE program, Ms. Wing and the Sixth Grade Center ACE site coordinator, Christopher James, created the Lionettes dance group to teach the students about the dedication and hard work necessary to learn such a craft.

During the school year, Abigail transformed her novice class into an excelled group of dancers. Their first public appearances included marching in the Greenville Christmas Parade and performing in the GISD P.E. Showcase. Seeing their potential, dedication and high quality of dance, the Lionettes were allowed to compete in an actual dance competition against other schools and dance studios.

On March 9th, the Lionettes attended the Showtime International Dallas Grand Finale where they competed in three different categories: Pom, Hip-Hip and Military. The Lionette routines were of such caliber that they received “Best in Category” for each routine, the Judge’s Award and Sweepstakes. The awards were presented as plaques and trophies. The Lionettes also earned the highest honor of Grand Champions for their category.

The success achieved by the Lionettes is one example of the remarkable programs and skills being taught in the ACE program. The group is also a reflection of the highly dedicated Greenville ISD staff who go beyond their routine duties to make a difference in Greenville students’ lives. They “Spread the Red.”
