GHS A Capella Choir Secures Sweepstakes

On Wednesday, April 17 the Greenville High School A Capella Choir traveled to Mt. Pleasant, Texas to compete in the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest.  The contest consists of a concert portion and a sight-reading event.  In the concert contest, choirs are judged on how well they present a prepared concert of three pieces.  In the sight-reading contest, choirs are judged on how well they study and perform a piece of music never before seen or rehearsed.  The contest is adjudicated by six professional judges, all who hold certifications by the Texas Music Adjudicators Association.  In both events, the A Capella Choir earned superior ratings and was ultimately awarded a sweepstakes trophy.  This is the first time in several years that the A Capella choir has earned superior ratings in both the concert and sight-reading contests.  “I’m so excited that we earned a sweepstakes!,” Anna Shook, A Capella senior said.  “The last time we had a sweepstakes was my freshman year.  It feels so good to finish my senior year with another win!”  The Greenville High School Choirs are under the direction of Jordan Ricks.
