GHS Student Named Crimestopper of the Year

GHS Student Abigale Hooper was honored last week at the 19th Annual Campus Crime Stoppers Conference in Fort Worth as Member of the Year for the entire State of Texas. She won this prestigious award based on her community service and academic distinctions.

Abigale Hooper has been a member of the Greenville ISD Campus Crimestopper Program since her freshman year. This year she was selected as president of the organization due to her unfailing commitment to her school work, Crimestoppers and her community. Abbie is a member of the PAL’s Program and has spent numerous hours volunteering at the local food bank, Women in Need and Drug Free Greenville. She is a GHS Flaming Flash Officer and on the tennis team which led to her being one of Dale Hansen’s scholar athletes of the week on WFAA Channel 8. She is currently ranked number five in her class with a 4.362 GPA.

Officer James Hamilton, Crimestopper Coordinator, said of Abbie, “What I know best about Abigale is her selfless volunteering at the Greenville Police Department and her involvement in church. The last two summers Abigale has spent her time volunteering at all of the programs the police department has facilitated. At “FishingFriday” you could find her baiting a hook or wrangling a cane pole with a four year old on the other end. At “Swimming Friday” she was there helping kids swim then getting out in time to help serve hot dogs and chips to the more than 450 attendees.”

He continued by saying, “Abigale is also active in church and truly understands what it means to be a Christian and serve with a Christian heart. She has visited elderly members and taken them treats, volunteered with the children’s ministry, and goes on a week-long mission trip every summer where she, along with others, tirelessly work to complete home repairs in 100 + degree temperatures.”

Officer Hamilton further stated, “As a father, she is everything I want my daughter to be and hope that she continues to look up to Abigale as a role model. As a youth director, she is the one that you don’t want to leave due to her hardwork and compassion to serving the Lord. As her SRO/Crimestopper Coordinator, she is the hardest worker we have ever had in the organization and is what we pray for in our organization. There is nothing fake about her, what you see is what you get, and what you see is a shining example of what we as Americans should be and what a Crimestoppers member should represent in their community.”
