VEX Robotics Bring Home Clean Sweep at Weekend Tourneys

GREENVILLE, TEX.--The Greenville High School VEX Robotics Team, the “Iron Cowboys,” and Greenville Middle School VEX Robotics Team, “the Gigabots,” competed in two tournaments this past weekend. GHS sent five teams to the Prosper Skyrise Tournament, in Prosper, while GMS sent six teams to Prosper and three teams to The United States Robotics League Tournament at Space City Houston.

Two GHS Teams and eight GMS Teams made it to the Elimination Rounds of these tournaments. GMS Team 2148A whose members are Jordan Frimpter, Trenton Burns, Austin Burns, Tessa Mitchell, and Yoensoo Jung joined with teams from Galena Park and Galveston to win the USRL Tournament. They also won their second Excellence Award of the year.

GHS Team 4148B consisting of Ryan Garland, Raymond McClure, Ryan Bakkum, Corey Hargraves, Xavier Dean and Nicolas Hazlett joined with” Ironwave” from Greenville and  “T-Vex” from Arlington to become Prosper Tournament Champions.  

Both of these teams have now qualified for the North Texas Regional in Greenville on February 21, 2015.

GHS Team 4148H consisting of Dan Price, Daniel Constancia, Denise Cuba, Matt McCallum, Kyle Herinrich, Isaiah Champion and Nicholas Torres joined with the “Firebots” from Greenville and the “Omni Eagles” from Quinlan to finish in second place.

GMS Teams competing in Houston and earning places in the elimination rounds were:

2148B - Members include Alex Bahm, Alysia Martinez, Joshua Ross, Francisa Gutierrez, Daniel Ugalde which finished in the Semifinals of the elimination round.

2148E – Members include Dallas Davies, Nick Stromberg, Kian Smith, Heavan Phillips, and Cheyenne Saling which finished in the Semifinals of the elimination rounds

GMS Teams competing in Prosper and earning places in the elimination rounds were:

2148C – Members include Pierce Thurmond, Javier Littlefield, Ethan McGee, and Brett Ozarowski which fished in the Quarter finals of the elimination rounds

2148D – Members include Noah Stone, Faith Clayton, Corbin Hudgins, Jacob Koger, and Brady Diggs which finished the Qualification rounds in 4th place.  They were in the tournament until in the Quarter finals of the elimination rounds.

2148G – Members include Hannah Cowgill, Kamden Priest, Kylie Locke, Reese Tubbs, and Wyatt Spivey which finished in the semifinals of the elimination rounds

2148H – Members include Kacie Weeks, Addey Carroll, Luis Ugalde, Zach Foster, and Dulce Romero which fished in the Quarter finals of the elimination rounds

2148J – Members include Alex Portillo, Brandon Leblanc, and Joshua Allen which finished in Quarter Finals of the elimination rounds.

The next competition for both the GHS and GMS teams will be in the Lake Highlands Tournament on Saturday, November 15th.
