GISD Earns 17 Academic Distinctions from TEA

Greenville Independent School District and eight of its ten campuses earned a “Met Standard” rating in the Texas Education Agency’s 2015 state accountability ratings system. Houston Education Center, the district’s alternative campus, is rated under the state’s alternative rating system.  Houston Education Center earned a “Met Alternative Standard” rating.  In addition, GISD campuses earned a total of seventeen academic distinction designations.

Superintendent, Don Jefferies, said that he is “very proud of the district staff and students for their accomplishments under this accountability system.  The fact that we earned seventeen academic distinctions this year versus eleven last year demonstrates significant progress.”  He continued, “I have confidence that our teachers, administrators, and students will continue to make significant improvements in all areas of performance.”

Bowie Elementary earned one distinction for Academic Achievement in Science. Lamar Elementary topped last year’s accomplishments by earning four distinctions for Academic Achievement in Reading/ELA, Top 25 Percent Student Progress, Top 25 Percent Closing Performance Gaps and Postsecondary Readiness. Greenville Sixth Grade Center showed tremendous improvement by moving from an “improvement required” rating in 2014 to a “met standard” rating this year while simultaneously earning one distinction in Postsecondary Readiness.

Greenville Middle School earned six, of a possible seven, distinctions for Academic Achievement in Reading/ELA, Academic Achievement in Mathematics, Academic Achievement in Science, Academic Achievement in Social Studies, Top 25 Percent Student Progress and Postsecondary Readiness. Greenville High School more than doubled their distinctions from last year, earning five distinction designations for Academic Achievement in Reading/ELA, Academic Achievement in Mathematics, Academic Achievement in Science, Academic Achievement in Social Studies and Top 25 Percent in Closing Performance Gaps.
