GHS College Day Preps Students for Life after High School

On Tuesday, Sept. 15th, Greenville High School seniors attended the annual “College Day” showcase organized by senior class counselor, Catherine Just. The showcase featured 78 colleges including two and four year institutions, trade schools and military representation. With 245 seniors in attendance, it was an excellent chance for graduating seniors to get their first peek into their next phase of life and education.

During the showcase, schools and universities set up booths filled with brochures and campus reps to answer all of the students’ questions and establish a connection with the students. Some universities represented were Southern Methodist University, Texas Woman’s University, Texas A&M University, University of Texas, University of North Texas, Texas Tech University, Texas A&M University-Commerce and Paris Junior College. Also represented were Universal Technical Institute, Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts, the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marines.

The College Day showcase offers students a sampling of different types of schools and universities where they can continue their education. “One of the great things about the college fair is the variety of schools that attend,” said Just.

The showcase not only offers students a chance to further acquaint themselves with familiar schools, but also introduces them to schools and career paths that they may not have considered previously. “I heard several students remark that they had never heard of some of these schools,” said Just. “That’s good because I want them to realize that there are many schools for them to choose from. I heard one student mention that she thought she knew where she wanted to go but now she has a couple of others schools she’s going to consider,” she said.
