GHS & Carver Receive $4,500 in Grants from New Walmart Neighborhood Market

sfssaf Yesterday morning, Walmart Neighborhood Market held its Grand Opening at their location on Wesley Street. Prior to their opening, General Manager and GHS Alumnus, Terry Mullican, encouraged Greenville ISD to apply for their Community Grant program. After applying for several grants, Greenville ISD was ultimately awarded grants for Greenville High School and Carver Elementary School.

The franchise is well known for their community support and was eager to partner with the city’s school district. During the opening, the GHS Lion Pride Band and GHS Cheerleaders helped kick-off the event by playing the school Fight Song and welcoming shoppers. “I am so impressed with Terry’s willingness to partner with Greenville ISD,” said GISD Communications Specialist and Education Foundation Liaison, Sonya Cathey.  “We are extremely appreciative of Walmart Neighborhood’s generosity.  Walmart Neighborhood Market is a fabulous addition to our awesome community!” said Cathey.

Greenville High School received a $2,500 grant for a “facelift”, where the Principal Heath Jarvis will form a committee to renovate and update the GHS trophy cases and hang historic and commemorative photos throughout the Halls of GHS. Carver Elementary’s Special Education Department was also awarded a $2,000 grant to fund adapted P.E. equipment for their playground to be utilized by students with special needs.

These grants were awarded after applying through Walmart’s online Community Grant Program at www.foundation.walmart.com.
