Greenville ISD Meets District Accountability Standards

Greenville ISD is enthusiastic to announce that through the hard work of students and staff, all district accountability standards have been met for the 2015-2016 year under the Texas Education Agency (TEA) accountability system. Through systematic changes and the utilization of carefully crafted practices, Greenville ISD received the “Met Standard” designation as a whole. Additionally, all GISD campuses eligible for a rating received the “Met Standard” designation with the exception of Travis Elementary, who barely missed receiving the prestigious evaluation.

Superintendent Don Jefferies stated, “The ability of our students and support of their parents coupled with highly qualified teachers and top-notch administrators is apparent in the test data. I am so proud to be associated with Greenville ISD.”

In recent years, Greenville ISD has initiated Product Oriented Education (POE), a project-based learning approach to curriculum. The education model has resulted in the vertically-aligned robotics program, Solar Car team, Destination Imagination successes and more.

GISD introduced a STEM Academy in 2007 with specific focus on the field’s names in the STEM acronym – science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The vertically aligned program now begins at LP Waters, the district’s Pre-K campus, where students enjoy visiting a STEM lab weekly. Furthermore, Greenville High School was awarded the T-STEM designation from TEA for the 2016-2017 year.

Mr. Jefferies continued saying, “I am so proud of our students, teachers and staff. Through an individualized approach and the implementation of best teaching practices, I know our students are receiving a world-class education.”

The Texas Education Agency designates districts and individual campuses as having “Met Standard” or “Improvement Required.” School districts and campuses who received the Met Standard designation are eligible for distinction designations. Since the implementation of the current accountability system four years ago, GISD has “Met Standard” as a district each year. Greenville ISD has received 28 Academic Distinctions from TEA in the past several years. The 2015-2016 Academic Distinctions will be announced by TEA in the coming months.
