On Thurs., Oct. 20^th, Greenville ISD honored all first responders in Hunt County with a free lunch social to express the district’s pride and support for the brave men and women of the community. The “Back the Red, White, and Blue” luncheon was created in support of all first responders where red represents fire rescue, white represents emergency medical responders, and blue represents law enforcement.

Last year, in the wake of so much violence towards law enforcement officers nationwide, Greenville ISD hosted its first ever “Back the Blue” honorary lunch in October 2015. This year, as staff reflected on a media marketplace oversaturated with cruelty and hate, Greenville ISD decided to expand the event to include all first responders, including law enforcement, fire rescue, and emergency medical responders.

This year’s “Back the Red, White, and Blue” event was held at the new Greenville High School Career and Technology Center. Guests received a free t-shirt and were treated to a steak, provided by Super 1, baked potato, donated by Chartwell’s, green beans, salad, apple cobbler and ice cream. All food was prepared by the GHS Culinary Arts students. All leftover food from the event was donated to Women in Need.
