GHS Senior, Ashley Best, Chosen as Dale Hansen Scholar Athlete of the Week

hdfhadfgd In early November, Greenville High School tennis coach, Mary Mulkey, nominated GHS Senior, Ashley Best, to be considered for the Dale Hansen North Texas Buick Dealers Scholar Athlete of the Week, which spotlights Texas students that not only excel athletically, but academically as well. Out of hundreds of nominations, Best was selected to be a Dale Hansen Scholar Athlete and will be recognized on Monday, Jan. 29th on channel 8 at 10:35 p.m.

“Ashley has a ‘behind the scenes’ kind of personality,” said Mulkey of Best. “Ashley moved to Greenville the summer before her junior year.  As we all know, that is a tough transition for any high school student.  However, Ashley stepped right into Greenville High School and hit the ‘courts’ running.  She was the silent example that began to lead the team.  She was, and still is, the player that never complains, identifies a need long before others, and steps in to help other teammates without ever being asked,” praised Mulkey.

In addition to being a standout Varsity Tennis player, Best is also Student Council President and an active member of the National Honor Society at GHS. Apart from school activities, Best is active in the Greenville community, volunteering as a Greenville Summer Slam Tennis Camp leader, a volunteer for the Haunted Landmark haunted house, and the annual Halloween on the Square.

Best is the daughter of Krista Best and Mark Powell and is one of their eight children. “Ashley has a lot of responsibilities at home due to being a part of such a large family. But, none the less, she still manages to do it all: be a great student, great leader, and a great young adult,” said Mulkey.
