GISD VEX Robotics Teams Stand Out at CREATE U. S. Open Robotics Championship

Council Bluffs, IA. -  Four team from Greenville ISD recently competed in the CREATE U. S. Open Robotics Championship with three of the four teams earning excellence awards at the championship.

The Protobots, VEX IQ Teams from Greenville Middle School, Team 5148F and Team 5148C, came from 38th and 34th place, respectively, at the conclusion of the qualification rounds to finish in 12th and 13th place in that order after the playoffs. There were 69 robots entered in the Middle School VEX IQ Division.

The Greenville High School Iron Cowboys, Team 4148A, completed the elimination rounds with a record of 5-5 to finish in 45th place. They were selected for the number four alliance by Team 4911A, High Voltage from Niles, MI. and Team 25461Z, Uncharted from Fate, TX. Even though they were the last team selected for the alliance, they became the alliance leader and drove in all of the elimination matches except one. They were eliminated in the semi-finals of their division. In March Madness terminology, they made it to the “Sweet Sixteen.” They became one of the top 16 robots out of the 184 robots entered in the VEX High School Division.

“To have three teams finish down in the standings at the end of the qualification rounds  and to finish 12th, 13th, and 16th after the playoffs and elimination rounds is a testament to the students' dedication and focus," GISD Director of VEX Robotics Johnny Tharp said. "This accomplishment is remarkable. I cannot wait to see them perform at the VEX World Championship.”
