College Choices for Automotive Students

Mr. Kroncke's auto tech classes and Mr. Brumley's collision repair classes welcomed Curtis Liston from Eastfield College who presented information about the automotive programs in college.

Auto Tech 1

Students received a great education today as they visited with Mr. Liston, who is a Professor of Auto Technology. He shared information on the degrees and/or certifications that can lead to well paying careers. He asked the students how much they consider "making a good living" would be. The response was around $50,000. They were surprised to learn that auto technicians could earn $70,000-$90,000, even $100,000+ as an auto tech.

Automotive Technology is becoming more computer based, and it is fortunate for consumers that this generation is so technical savvy.Today they learned how important the computers are when working on high-end cars such as Toyota, Lexus, Honda and Acura.

70% of the school work in hands-on in the labs. They can even get paid internships while in school.

The students can earn an Associate's Degree in about 2 years at a cost of $6,600 (out of district). This is one of the best educational opportunities out there, especially considering that Pell Grants are about $5,800/year depending on qualifications. So the whole cost could be covered.

Auto 2

Mr. Brumley and Mr. Kroncke discussed with the students the importance of getting a driver's license and having a clean driving record in being employable. They also reviewed the background checks done by employers, including what is posted on social media.
