Here Comes the Judge!
The best way to study court trials
is to have a trial in class.
Mrs. Mulkey's Business Law students have spent the last several weeks preparing for a trial in which a young college students died during a hazing incident.
Students took on roles of attorneys for the defense and prosecution. Other students were the witnesses, the accused, the jury, or the judge. The trial lasted 2 days with the questioning and cross-questioning of the witnesses.
The attorneys had to summarize their case before the jury began their deliberation.
When the first vote was taken by the jury foreman, and it was tied - 4 to 4. The students took time to share why they voted the way they did.
The jury made a decision, and presented it to the judge who announced a not guilty verdict - much to the delight of the defendant.
