Local Assessments & Screening Tools

Greenville ISD uses NWEA MAP Growth Assessments to help teachers understand what students know and what they are ready to learn next. Typically, these assessments are given three times during the school year; Beginning of Year (BOY), Middle of Year (MOY), and End of Year (EOY). After careful consideration, knowing the value of this data, informed instructional decisions can be made for our students.

NWEA MAP Reading Fluency are online reading assessments used to identify student's independent reading level in terms of accuracy, fluency, and comprehension. MAP Reading Fluency is administered student by teachers three times during the school year: BOY, MOY, and EOY. Teachers use results, along with  the results of other assessments, to determine whether students are reading on, above, or below grade level. By knowing student reading levels, teachers can plan for small group, guided reading instruction, including targeted interventions and supplemental support.  

The purpose of the District Summative Assessments are to measure student progress toward the mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

Teachers use the data from these assessments to shore up gaps in student understanding of the TEKS. The summative assessments are administered at the end of each nine week grading period and are aligned with the material taught as determined by the district curriculum pacing guides.

Summative assessments are administered for all core subjects; Reading/English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
