Emergent Bilingual Students
All schools in Texas must assess the English language proficiency of students whose Home Language Survey shows a language other than English is spoken at home, according to Texas Administrative Code §89.1225.
Students will take a state-approved English language proficiency test. Prekindergarten through first-grade students will be tested on listening and speaking. Second through twelfth-grade students will be tested on listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
If a student has limited English proficiency, they can enroll in a suitable language program.
Greenville Independent School District offers Bilingual Education and English as a Second Language programs. These programs help English learners become skilled in reading, listening, speaking, and writing while learning grade-level content.
