GISD Campuses

 

Custodial Team

  • 49 full-time custodians
  • 1 morning supervisor and
  • 1 evening supervisor
  • Open and close buildings daily (first in and last out)
  • Cleaning and sanitation of school equipment, furniture, fixtures, and walls
  • Keep buildings, classrooms, and playgrounds clean, safe, and orderly
  • Report maintenance issues for correction
  • Move furniture, paper, and perform small tasks for the campus
  • Use environmental friendly chemicals and cleaners
  • 100 cases of toilet paper rolls per month (1,200 large rolls or 1.2 million feet of toilet paper per month)
  • 100 cases of paper towels per month (480,000 feet of paper towels per month)
  • 94 five gallon buckets of wax used each summer
  • 100 cases (600 containers) of foaming soap per month

 

Transportation 

  • GISD transports 1,400 students daily on district-owned and operated buses
  • Each year district buses cover 341,360 route miles
  • This breaks down to 1,896 routes miles per day on 48 daily routes
  • The district employs 41 full time and 18 part time employees
  • Currently looking for 1 driver, 2 monitors, and a mechanic
  • 46 buses in the fleet
  • Average age of the bus fleet is 6 years
  • 2005 is the oldest model route bus in the fleet
  • The district is working toward a 10—12 year replacement cycle to meet industry standards
  • The district has purchased 28 buses in the past 5 years
  • The district purchased 6 buses this year using federal grant funds
  • The cost of a new bus with air conditioning is $141,000 each
  • GISD pays $323,720 annually for fuel
  • All route and trip buses have air conditioning
  • Spare (Backup) buses do not have air conditioning
