Welcome to the Den | Rachel Thurmond
Greenville ISD is proud to announce Rachael Thurmond as the new Director of Health Services.
With more than 20 years of nursing experience—including the last five as the campus nurse at Lamar Elementary—Mrs. Thurmond brings a deep commitment to student health and a passion for school-based care. She has built strong relationships with students, families, and staff, always striving to provide high-quality, compassionate care that supports the well-being and success of every child.
Mrs. Thurmond holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University–Commerce and an Associate Degree in Nursing from Paris Junior College. Her diverse clinical background includes hospital acute care, long-term care, case management, and hospice services. In addition to her hands-on experience, she has served in several leadership roles, consistently staying grounded in direct patient care while guiding others in the field.
As she steps into her new districtwide role, Mrs. Thurmond is excited to support and mentor the Greenville ISD nursing team. She is focused on strengthening continuity of care across campuses and empowering nurses to build meaningful connections that help students stay healthy, present, and ready to learn.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, cheering on her children in their activities, exercising, going to the lake, and fishing. Mrs. Thurmond is actively involved in the community and remains a passionate advocate for student health and for making Greenville ISD the very best it can be.
Please join us in congratulating Rachael Thurmond on her new role!
