GISD Receives GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) announced that Greenville ISD received the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its budget.

The award represents a significant achievement by the school district and reflects the district’s commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive this award, GISD had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The district was assessed on a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device and the budget documents had to be rated “proficient” in all four categories.

In 2012 to 2013, Greenville ISD has installed cost-saving and revenue enhancing mechanisms to maintain financial strength even among state and federal cuts. Among these, the district developed and implemented staffing ratios to efficiently staff campuses, offered an Early Exit Incentive program, implemented an employee absence tracking system, created bus and web advertising campaigns, entered into apparel contract agreements with local vendors and was awarded the Texas PTA clean school bus grant, a technology grant and a Loss Prevention Grant.

Superintendent Don Jefferies said of the award, “Receiving the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from GFOA reflects the expertise and efficiency of the district’s business office and the commitment across the board to wisely utilize funds. I am proud of all of our staff and their ability to smartly make use of resources to offer our students a world-class education.”
