Educational Foundation Awards $19,000 in Grants

The Greenville Educational Enrichment Foundation (GEEF) awarded nearly $19,000 in grants this year.  Randy Tarpley, GEEF Board President, announced at the beginning of the school year that a goal had been set to fund every grant application submitted by Greenville ISD teachers in 2013. At the foundation recipient ceremonies he eagerly stated, “We are happy to announce that we were successful in our goal and able to fund all 22 grant requests.”

Teachers who received grants included Kayci Schellinger ($720) – Bowie Elementary, Shawna Kelsey ($1000) – Carver, Cathy Garner ($1000) – Travis, Ryan Jarrell and Jennifer Osborne ($920) – Houston Education Center. Greenville High School received four grants totaling $3,480.  The recipients were Lucas Kiowski, Cheryl Brown, Maria Diaz, Sarah Bunch-Morrison, Yenny Ibarra and Bobb Mahrer.  Lamar Elementary received 14 grants totaling $11, 669. Teachers awarded were Sandy Bloyed, Gina Burk, Nicole Cardwell, Lynn Craig, Christine Newell, Terri Mewbourn, Martha Hampton, Kathryn Douglas, Lauren Habluetzel, Sherrie Mitchell, Laura Walker, Savoy Wilkerson, Shannon Manley, Megan Dudark and June Miller.

Items to be purchased with the grants include ipads, itouches, Kindle fires, Samsung notebooks, ActiveSlates, a document camera, playground equipment for special needs students, dance costumes for a Ballet Folkorico, books, books on CDs and stainless steel work tables.

Foundation Board Members are Randy Tarpley, President, Lance Woodard, Vice-President, Penni Perkins, Treasurer, Tina Mason-Pitt, Secretary, Elaine Yznaga, Foundation Liaison, Duane Gaulden, Trena Stafford, Leah Tillotson, Don Jefferies, Greenville ISD Superintendent, and Kelli Tharp, GISD Director of Community Services.

“We want to offer a heartfelt thanks to all of the Greenville ISD employees who participated in the payroll deduction campaign, the businesses and patrons who made donations through the business campaign and all of the participants in our first annual Adult Spelling Bee and Shrimp Boil. We would not have had this immense success without your financial support.”
