GHS Students Sing Their Way to State

On Thursday, February 20, members of the GHS Choir traveled to Texas A&M University-Commerce to participate in the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest.  Participation in this event required students to prepare and perform by memory a solo or an ensemble selected from the prescribed music list.  Students were evaluated and received a rating based on how well they performed the music.  A rating of 1 is considered superior, 2 is good and 3 is average.

Students earning a superior rating on their solo included Shannon Masson, Claire Hooper, Guibel Sanchez, Samantha Villasana, John Shasteen, Quyn Nash, Zach Hamilton, Jonathan Rea, Ben Fawcett, Christopher Williamson, Reah Dawson, Daisy Espinoza, Amanda Rodgers and Laura Foote.

Additionally, GHS students earning a superior rating on a class one (advanced level) solo will be advancing to the UIL State Solo & Ensemble Contest. The state competition will be held at the University of Texas at Austin campus over Memorial Day Weekend in May. Students attending include Quyn Nash, Zach Hamilton, Jonathan Rea, Ben Fawcett, Christopher Williamson, Reah Dawson, Daisy Espinoza, Amanda Rodgers, Laura Foote, and John Shasteen.
