GISD Destination Imagination Teams Dominate

Greenville ISD Destination Imagination teams dominated the Regional Tournament this weekend in Mesquite, Texas. Competing with over 330 teams from around the state, GISD’s 21 teams came home with 6 teams advancing to state and 12 teams placing in the top 3.  
 
Emily Duke, Destination Imagination Coordinator, stated, “The 140 students who participated in DI this year have worked many months on their solutions and I could not be more proud of the results. 7 teams advancing to state and 12 in the top three shows that Greenville teams are innovative, hardworking and determined.”

Results were as follows:

Greenville High School

Structure placed 1st, is state bound and won a Renaissance award for outstanding skill in the areas of design, engineering or execution of performance.  

Technical placed 1st, is state bound and member Delaney Stewart was awarded the Earl Williams memorial scholarship

Scientific placed first, is headed to state and won a Renaissance award for outstanding skill in the areas of design, engineering or execution of performance.  

Performance placed 2nd

Improv placed 2nd

Project Outreach placed 3rd and is headed to state.

 

Greenville Middle School

Scientific placed 1st is state bound and won a Da Vinci award given for having a unique approach to a solution, for risk taking, and/or for outstanding creativity.

6th Grade Center

Technical team placed 2nd is headed to State and received a Spirit of DI award for outstanding teamwork in Instant Challenge.

Bowie Elementary

Rising Stars received an award recognizing the courageous, curious and joyous first steps in the journey of life-long learners.

Scientific placed 1st and is headed to state

Emily continued, “Destination Imagination encourages our students to take risks, have fun, focus and creatively solve challenges while incorporating STEM, the arts, and service learning. Being a part of something as unique and challenging as Destination Imagination has been a dream come true.”
