Ricky Steward receives 'Outstanding Performer' UIL Award

GREENVILLE, TEX.-- Greenville High School student, Ricky Steward, received the Outstanding Performer award at the 2014 Texas State UIL Solo & Ensemble music competition for his solo percussionist performance.

Band Director, Joel Weisberg, explains the rarity of Steward's accomplishment. Weisberg said "there are 95,000 students that participate in the regional UIL music contests. 24,000 made their way to the Texas State UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest. Out of those 24,000 only 269 students received an 'Outstanding Performer' award."

The Texas State UIL Solo & Ensemble competition takes place in May where students perform choral or instrumental solos or with a small group. For more information on the state UIL competition, go to  www.uiltexas.org/music/tssec
