GISD Earns 11 Academic Distinctions

GREENVILLE, TEX.--Greenville Independent School District and seven of its ten campuses earned a “Met Standard” rating in the Texas Education Agency’s 2014 state accountability ratings system. Houston Education Center, the district’s alternative campus, is rated under the state’s alternative rating system.  Houston Education Center earned a “Met Alternative Standard” rating.  In addition, GISD campuses earned a total of eleven academic distinction designations.

Don Jefferies, Superintendent, reported that he is “very proud of the district staff and students for their accomplishments under this accountability system.  The fact that we earned eleven academic distinctions this year versus six last year demonstrates significant progress.”  He continued, “I have confidence that our teachers, administrators, and students will continue to make significant improvements in all areas of performance.”

Carver Elementary earned one distinction in Academic Achievement in Science; Bowie Elementary earned distinctions for Academic Achievement in Mathematics and Postsecondary Readiness;  Lamar Elementary earned three distinctions for Academic Achievement in Reading/ELA, Top 25 Percent Closing Performance Gaps and Postsecondary Readiness; Greenville Middle School earned three distinctions for Academic Achievement in Reading/ELA, Top 25 Percent Student Progress and Postsecondary Readiness; and Greenville High School earned two distinction designations for Academic Achievement in Social Studies and  Top 25 Percent in Closing Performance Gaps.

Travis Elementary, Crockett Elementary and Greenville Sixth Grade Center received the “Improvement Required” rating. Travis Elementary fell short in one index, Student Achievement, by one point. This is a snapshot of performance across all subjects, on both general and alternative assessments, at an established performance standard. The campus met the standard in the other three indices.

Greenville Sixth Grade Center fell below the target in Student Progress. The Student Progress area of the accountability rating provides an opportunity for campuses to show improvements made independent of overall achievement levels. Growth is evaluated by subject and student group. Greenville Sixth Grade Center met the target in all other indices.

Crockett Elementary fell short in Student Progress and Closing Performance Gaps, and met the target in the other indices. The Closing Performance Gaps index emphasizes improving academic achievement of the economically disadvantaged student group and the lowest performing race/ethnicity student groups at each campus or district.
