GHS VEX Robotics Rack up the Awards at Garland Tournament

GREENVILLE, TEX.--The GHS Iron Cowboys competed this past weekend at the Garland Robotics Regional Tournament in Garland, Tex. Every team advanced onto the elimination rounds with two teams moving on to the quarter and semifinals. Each team also brought home multiple awards, making the Iron Cowboys a very decorated team.

Team 4148E finished the day ranked at number 15 and won the Sportsmanship Award, which is awarded to a team that is extremely courteous and most enthusiastic. They also won the Amaze Award, which is awarded to a team with an amazing, well rounded and top performing robot. They were chosen to be on the 8th seeded alliance and made it to the quarterfinals. Team Members include Martin Castillo, Shea Garland, Lydia Shatney, Katie Tolly, Jessica Bousquet, and John Colderon.

Team 4148A finished the tournament ranked at number 20. They were chosen by the number six alliance, where they made it to the quarterfinals. They won the Create Award, which is given to the robot with a creative engineering solution. Team members include Jacob Hunnicutt, Nathan Fort, Gavin Jordan, Aidan Smith, Colton Crump, and Darren Thiessen.

Team 4148G was chosen to play in the eliminations by the 4th alliance and advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament. Team members include Hannah Escobedo, Carlos Rodriguez, Jorge Ruiz, Carlos Riveroll, and Zachery Freeman.

Team 4148C was chosen to be on the 2nd alliance for the elimination matches where they advanced to the semifinals of the event. They also received the Judges Award, which is given to a team that the judges believe deserve special recognition. Team members include Bobby Osornio, Mason Smith, and Anthony Suggs.

Iron Cowboys Coach, Colin Nobles, said “This weekend was huge for the students of 4148, I’m very proud of the awards they won. But what really make me happy is seeing how far they took the iterative design cycle.” He continued, “the robots that we ran today are indistinguishable from the bots they had in October and that is a testament to the hard work they put in.”
