GHS German Class are UIL State Champs..again!

GREENVILLE, TEX.—This past Saturday, the 33rd Annual Texas State German Contest was held. During the competition German students from Greenville High School won several high honors and were named state champions for the second year in a row.

This contest was preceded by three regional contests held Saturday, February 7th;  the Winterfest held at R.L. Turner Carrollton, Sprachfest held in San Antonio, and Houstonfest held in Houston.  The top five finishers in 84 events from each region advanced to the state level.

Since 1982, when the first Texas State German Contest took place, this is perhaps the only year that winter weather affected schools being able to attend.  This year there were 1,005 students registered from 69 schools.  There were 1,096 entries across 84 events, including breakdown of levels, and over 200 judges, coordinators and directors.

Greenville High School students qualified for and competed in three events this year.  At the state level, David Foote placed eighth in original shirt design.  The GHS cast of Aschenputtel (Cinderella) placed seventh in Level 2 Skit.  Cast members included Joe Allman, Laura Foote, J.T. Foote, Jacob Hunnicutt, Shea Garland, Katie Tolly, and Jessi Fawcett.

Die Tanzenden Löwen (The Dancing Lions), GHS German folkdance team won first place in folkdance for the second year in a row.  Team members who competed were Annie Steward, Mason Smith, Seska Jordan, Phillip Malone, Jessi Fawcett, Katie Tolly, Erik Cannon, Princess Brown, David Paulin, Faith Tucker, J.T. Foote, and Shea Garland.
