Town Hall Meeting Recap

On Monday, March 23rd, the City of Greenville held a Town Hall meeting for residents to voice concerns over the proposed driveway connection between Beverly Drive and the new Bowie Elementary School. Approximately 100 residents attended the meeting with several offering points ranging from the disruption of queued cars idling in the neighborhood to the safety of students walking in the area sans sidewalks. Representatives from Halff Traffic Engineers, Huckabee Architects, the City of Greenville and Greenville ISD listened to and addressed the constituents.

After careful consideration of the collective concerns, Don Jefferies made the decision following the meeting to recommend eliminating the Beverly Drive exit from the Bowie site to the GISD Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees will meet tonight, March 24th, at a regular Board Meeting, however, action on the proposed drive would not occur until the next meeting as this issue is not presently included on tonight’s agenda.

There will be an open meeting for all interested parties at Bowie Elementary on April 13th at 6pm to discuss plans, timelines and processes for the preparation of the construction of the new Bowie.
