GISD'S Laura Carter Nominated for National Transportation Admin of the Year

Laura Carter serves as Greenville ISD's Director of Transportation, however, her job description, and heart, span far beyond her job title. Carter works tirelessly to provide safe and comfortable transportation for students and a positive and amiable work environment for her employees. Carter also establishes and maintains excellent relationships with parents to establish trust and confidence. Through extensive training, continual implementation and review of systems, excellent communication skills and a solid work ethic, Carter excels at her duties. It is for these attributes that Carter has been nominated for the School Bus Fleet’s, a national school transportation resource magazine, 2015 Transportation Administrator of the Year.

“We are very proud of Laura Carter and all that she does for Greenville ISD students, parents, and staff.  Her first priority is always the safety of the students” said Superintendent, Don Jefferies. “She provides excellent training to her drivers and staff and makes her staff and drivers feel appreciated for all their hard work,” he continued.  

Beyond Greenville ISD, Carter is also the North East Texas Association for Pupil Transportation (NETAPT) President 2015-16 for Region 8. Recently, Carter served in 2014-15 as North Texas Association for Pupil Transportation (NTAPT) Treasurer in Region 10. She was President of this organization in 2013-14 and President Elect in 2012-13.

Carter has also served as the Region 10 & 11 Road-eo Chair (School Bus Safety Competition) since 2013 and has served as a volunteer for the State Road-eo since 2014. An active member of the community of Greenville, Carter has been a Drug Free Greenville Executive Committee Member since 2010.

“Laura absolutely deserves recognition as [Transportation] Administrator of the Year. Her heart for children and public education is apparent in all that she does,” said Chief Communications Officer, Kelli Tharp. “She supports all GISD staff and is passionate about her responsibilities and the importance of her role in the district” said Tharp.  “She is a proven leader in the student transportation business” said Jefferies. “We are blessed to have her as our Director of Transportation!” he said.
