GISD Receives School Safety Certification

The Texas School Safety Center at Texas State University, in conjunction with the School Safety Task Force, awarded Greenville ISD with the School Safety Certification. The certification, valid for two years, is awarded to districts that show exceptional efforts toward sustaining safe learning environments.

School districts were assessed on their overall safety and security practices. These criteria were based on the Texas Unified School Safety and Security Standards developed by the Texas School Safety Center in collaboration with other stakeholders.

Don Jefferies, Greenville ISD Superintendent, stated of the award, “The safety and security of our students and staff is our number one priority. I am pleased the district was recognized for our commitment to this initiative.”

In addition to the procedures and advancements already in place, the GISD bond package included almost $9 Million in safety and security improvements. When completed, these enhancements will include controlled vestibule entrances and card reader access systems on all campuses, surveillance system expansion and upgrades, and fire alarm upgrades.
