GHS German Students Advance to State Competition

On Saturday, Feb. 6, Greenville High School German students travelled to R.L. Paschal High School in Ft. Worth, Tex. to compete at the Winterfest Regional German Contest.  The top five contestants in each state qualifying event advance to the state competition. All GHS students who competed qualified and will advance to the Texas State German Contest held at Texas State University in San Marcos on Feb. 27.

“These students have worked very hard to excel and to represent our school and our German program” said German teacher, Sheila Easley.

 

The GHS “Oompah” band won first place in their category, where they played three polka style selections including Hi-le-Hi-Lo, Kommt ein Vogel geflogen, and Auf, singet und trinket. Students who competed in this category were David Foote, J.T. Foote, Laura Foote, Shea Garland, Amanda Manning, Brittany Riveroll, Michael Sisto, Berkley Smith and Annie Steward.

 

The Folk Dance team won first place. The team performed five traditional German/Austrian level three dances, which is the most difficult rating. Team members included Joe Allman, Kelsey Baldwin, Tyler Behrens, Kolton Evans, David Foote, J.T. Foote, Laura Foote, Shea Garland, Anna Guiette, Nic Hazlett, Seska Jordan, Amanda Manning, Levi Prine, Brittany Riveroll, William Simpson, Berkley Smith, Annie Steward and Katie Tolley.

 

The Level Two Skit competitors performed Rumpelstilzchen and went home with second place. Cast members included Bradley Butcher, Cheyene Eagle, Shea Garland, Nick Ruprecht, Austin Sanders and Michael Sisto.

The Level Three Skit competitors performed Schneewittchen, or Snow White, and won third place overall. Kelsey Baldwin earned the Best Actress Award for her role as the evil queen.  Cast members included Kelsey Baldwin, Kolton Evans, David Foote, J.T. Foote, Laura Foote, Nic Hazlett, Jaylynn Kellar, Amanda Manning, Brittany Riveroll and Berkley Smith.

Annie Steward and Joe Allman won third place for a couple’s folk dance titled Einzelplattl.
