GHS German Students Perform Well at State Competition

On Saturday, Feb. 26, Greenville High School German students participated in the Texas State German Contest at Texas State University in San Marcos, Tex., where they competed against representatives from 80 other schools throughout the state. All of the GHS groups placed in the top ten of their events earning points toward the overall sweepstakes.

The GHS German Folkdance team, "Tanzenden Löwen”, won second place with their performance. Folkdance team members are Annie Steward, Seska Jordan, Joe Allman, Kolton Evans, Jessi Fawcett, William Smith, Erik Cannon, Anna Guiette, Katie Tolly, Shea Garland, Nic Hazlett, Berkley Smith, Amanda Manning, David Foote, J.T. Foote, Tyler Behrends, Levi Prine, and Kelsey Baldwin.

The Polka Band finished the competition in eighth place. The members of the Polka band are Michael Sisto, Annie Steward, David Foote, J.T. Foote, Amanda Manning, and Shea Garland.

The Level 3 skit finished in ninth place with their performance of  the German version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Cast members are Kelsey Baldwin, David Foote, J.T. Foote, Berkley Smith, Katie Tolly, Jaylynn Kellar, Amanda Manning, Jessi Fawcett, Erik Cannon, and Nic Hazlett.

The Level 2 skit performed the German version of Rumpelstilzchen, which earned them tenth place. The cast members are Shea Garland, Nick Ruprecht, Cheyene Eagle, Michael Sisto, and Levi Prine.

“These students have worked very hard throughout the year to prepare for the regional contest which was held February 6th in order to qualify for the State Contest held the 27th. They have shown a great deal of dedication and hard work” said GHS German teacher, Sheila Easley.
