GISD Finance Dept. Wins Meritorious Budget Award

The Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International has awarded Greenville Independent School District its Meritorious Budget Award for the seventh consecutive year for excellence in budget presentation during the 2015–2016 budget year.

The Meritorious Budget Awards (MBA) program promotes and recognizes excellence in school budget presentation and recognizes exceptional school business officials' skills in developing, analyzing, and presenting a school system budget. After a rigorous review by professional auditors, the award is conferred only on school districts that have met or exceeded the program’s stringent criteria.

GISD Superintendent Don Jefferies says of the award, “The continued recognition of our finance department illustrates our dutiful prudence with taxpayers’ dollars. I am proud of our staff and their diligence in establishing clean financial plans and effectively maintaining campus and district budgets. The addition of approximately $2.7 million to the 2015-2016 fund balance echoes their commitment to effective governmental budgeting. I could not be more pleased of their efforts.”

Those with questions about the Greenville ISD budgeting process are encouraged to contact Kelli Tharp, Chief Communications and Business Development Office, at 903.408.4483.
