GMS/SGC VEX and VEX IQ Robotics Compete in U.S. Open

Last weekend, the Greenville Middle School VEX Robotics Team, the Gigabots, entered three robots in the CREATE U. S. Open Championship - VEX Middle School Division, while the GMS VEX IQ Team, 5148A, and the Sixth Grade Center VEX IQ Team, 3148C, entered the  CREATE U. S. Open Robotics Championship – VEX IQ Division. Both championship tournaments were held in Council Bluffs, IA.

The GMS Gigabots 2148E, whose team members are Dallas Davies, Noah Stone, Faith Clayton, Nick Stromberg and Kegan Rios, finished the qualifications rounds in first place and were one of two teams to go undefeated. They were the number one alliance captain and finished the tournament in the semi-finals. They also finished in sixth place in both the Robot and Programming Skills Challenge.

Team 2148A, made up of Josh Allen, Austin Burns, Alex Portillo, Daniel Ugalde and Luis Ugalde, finished the qualification rounds in fifth place. They joined the number two alliance and were eliminated in the quarterfinals. They won the Robot Skills Challenge and finished the Programming Skills Challenge in fourth place.

The GMS VEX IQ team, the Protobots 5148A, finished the qualification rounds in 5th place. They were in the number three alliance and finished the tournament in 4th place. They finished tenth in the Robot Skills Challenge and twelfth in the Programming Skills Challenge. 5148A’s team members are Brandon Moore, Thomas Mattson and Jovani Rodriguez.

The Sixth Grade Center Cyborgs 3148C, whose team members are Emiliano Portillo, Aiden Schafft, Rance Robles, Andy Shields and Dawson Diggs, finished the qualification rounds in 23rd place. They were selected as the number eleven alliance and finished the tournament in twelfth place. They finished the Robot Skills Challenge in twelfth place and the Programming Skills Challenge in seventeenth place.

Gigabots Team 2148A and Protobots Team 5148A will next compete in the VEX World Championship in Louisville, KY, April 20 – 23th.
