Last week, the Greenville High School VEX Robotics team, the Iron Cowboys took two teams to the CREATE U.S. Open in Council Bluffs, Iowa to compete in the High School division against teams from around the United States and Canada.

Both teams worked hard and were given the opportunity to choose alliances for the eliminations rounds. The Iron Cowboys team 4148A, whose members are Tessa Mitchell, Brandon LeBlanc, Jessica Bousquet, Romeo Gomez, Trenton Burns, Logan Hobson, and Jordan Frimpter, was ranked 14th and were the number eight seed. They picked team 2019F, from Flower Mound High School, and 2011D, but were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Team 4148A was also competed in the Programming Skills Challenge, where the robot uses only computer code to navigate and score. However, they fell 19 points short of the championship score of 341 points.

Iron Cowboys team 4148B was picked by the number six seed, teams 598A and 9623B, but was knocked out in round-robin Match three. Members of team 4148B include Ryan Bakkum, Raymond McClure, Corey Hargraves, and John Calderon.

“All of my students worked very hard this weekend, but the aspect I feel best about is how well the lead scouts performed,” said Iron Cowboys Coach, Colin Nobles. “Nicholas Hazlett, Nicholas Torres, and Jessica Bousquet spent many, many long hours recording data on our opponents. In the end the system they designed and data they collected was instrumental. This was the most advanced scouting the Greenville High School VEX program has ever done” he said.
