GISD Receives Cycle 9 ACE Grant to Continue Afterschool and Summer Programming

Greenville ISD ACE Out-of-School Time Program is funded by the Federal 21st Century Grant, monitored by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) with Greenville ISD acting as the fiscal agent. Greenville ISD has been preliminarily selected to receive the grant again for the 2016–2017 Texas 21st Century Community Learning Centers, Cycle 9, Year 1 grant program.

The goals of the ACE grant are to increase student attendance, academics, pro-social behaviors, promotion and graduation rates. Johanna Friedel, ACE Project Director, says that these goals are accomplished by “creating enrichment, academic, career and college readiness and parent involvement activities through collaboration with families, community, and school district.”

Although the original ACE grant was written for 650 students, over 1,100 students in Greenville ISD participated in ACE last year, with students receiving nearly 5,000 hours of tutoring during ACE from certified teachers. ACE students, when compared to non-ACE students, had higher subject grades, higher attendance rates, lower discipline removals and higher promotion rates.

Greenville ACE is strengthened through relationships with generous community partners. During the 2012-2013 school year, ACE benefited from fourteen partnerships including those with DrugFree Greenville, The Master Gardeners of Hunt County, The Boys & Girls Club, and the YMCA.
