New "Girl Powered" Workshop to Take Place Oct. 11

Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. These are the building blocks of STEM. Though traditionally considered to be "male dominated"industry, many women are becoming more involved in STEM industries and education. It's time to celebrate these women, and all of the ones yet to come.

The Robotics Education and Competition Foundation (REC) has declared October 11th as the “International Day of the Girl”, celebrating girls in STEM education and industry. On Oct. 11, Greenville ISD will host a Girl Powered workshop to coincide with the “day of the girl” and celebrate our female STEM students district wide. The workshop is free and open to all girls in GISD from 3rd-12th grades.

This workshop isn't just for girls that do Robotics or Solar Car. STEM encompasses a broad range of interests, from robotics to solar car, to math, web design and video games. It's all STEM. Attendees are absolutely not required to be enrolled in any extra-curricular activities to attend the workshop.

The Girl Powered event will be held on Oct. 11th at the Greenville High School robotics room at the new Career and Technology building from 4-6 p.m. Registered students will receive a Girl Powered t-shirt and interact with females working in STEM industries, as well as participate in STEM activities and confidence building activities.

This event is the first of its kind and will continue to propel existing STEM initiatives in Greenville ISD forward. Registration for the workshop is now open, closing on Monday, Oct. 3rd. You can register online here.
