On Saturday, Feb. 4, 18 German students from Greenville High School competed at the Winterfest North Texas Regional German Contest, held at R. L. Paschal High School in Fort Worth.  This year, 500-700 German students from 33 high schools throughout North Texas competed in a wide variety of events.

Greenville High School students won third place in the Cultural Sweepstakes and Fifth place in Overall Sweepstakes.  Schools receive sweepstakes points based on their overall success, and compete for culture sweepstakes, academic sweepstakes, and overall sweepstakes honors.

Students who ranked in the top five of most of the day’s events will advance to the Texas State German Contest, to be held at Texas State University in San Marcos on Saturday, Feb. 25^th. Those students will compete against qualifiers from regional contests held in San Antonio for South Texas and Houston for East Texas.  Nearly 1,000 students will participate at the state level.  Teachers, exchange students, college students, professors, and many other community members, including native Germans in the area, act as judges for the competitions.
