GHS & GMS robotics teams crush competition and gear up for more

Greenville High School's VEX Robotics hit the mark during a recent tournament, and they're gearing up for more.

 

The Iron Cowboys, the VEX Robotics Team, entered five teams. And the Greenville Middle School VEX Robotics Team, the Gigabots, entered eight teams in the recent Greenville “In the Zone” League at GHS Career and Technology Center Robotics Arena. Greenville ISD was well represented in the playoffs with all five Iron Cowboys and four Gigabots teams earning spots. Here are more details:

  • The Iron Cowboys 4148A made up of Alex Portillo, Austin Burns, Daniel Ugalde, Trenton Burns, Luis Ugalde and Charlie Murfin completed the qualification rounds in 1st place. They selected Team 60x, Discobots-Crossfire from Garland to form the number one alliance. They went undefeated in the elimination rounds to become the Tournament Champion.
  • Due to their victory, Team 4148A has qualified for the North Texas VEX “In the Zone” Regional High School Championship in Greenville on Saturday February 24, 2018. They have also qualified for the CREATE U. S. Open VEX Robotics Championship – High School Division in Council Bluffs, IA, Thursday, April 05, 2018 through Saturday, April 07, 2018.
  • The Iron Cowboys will compete in the Southlake Carroll “In the Zone” Tournament in Southlake on Saturday, November 11. The Gigabots will next enter the Greenville “In the Zone” Middle School Tournament at the GHS Robotics Arena on Saturday, December 2.
