GHS Iron Cowboys VEX Robotics Clean Up at Tournament

Iron Cowboys at Southlake Carrol On Nov. 11, Greenville High School VEX Robotics Team, the Iron Cowboys, entered three teams in the Southlake Carrol In the Zone Tournament at Carroll Senior High.

The Iron Cowboys 4148A made up of Alex Portillo, Austin Burns, Daniel Ugalde, Trenton Burns, Luis Ugalde and Charlie Murfin, completed the qualification rounds in first place. They selected team 25461Z, Second Floor Robotics from Fate, and team 7110A, Fired Up! Form Carrol Senior High, to form the number one alliance. They went undefeated in the elimination rounds to become the Tournament Champion.

In addition to winning the tournament, 4148A also won two of the highest honors possible at a VEX competiiton; the Excellence Award, which is presented to a team that exemplifies overall excellence in creating a high quality VEX robotics program, and the Robot Skills Award.

Team 4148D whose members are Jacob Linden, Samuel Martin, David Voss and Jovani Rodriguez, finished the qualification rounds in third place. They selected Team 500K, Thermobots from Garland and 7110S, Fired Up! From Southlake to form the number two alliance. They were eliminated in the finals which earned them second place at the tournament. They also were in fourth place in the Robot Skills Challenge.

Team 4148E whose members are of Eli DeLeon, Gerardo Olivas, Tyler Seale, Brandon Stephens and Elijah Wofford, finished the qualification rounds in eighth place. They joined Team 60X, Discobots – Crossfire from Garland, and 7110D, Fired Up! From Southlake, to form the number three alliance. They were eliminated in the semi-finals. Team 4148E also earned third place in the Robot Skills Challenge.

The Iron Cowboys next compete in the Greenville VEX “In the Zone” Tournament in Greenville on Saturday, Dec. 9.
