Gigabots win top spots at tournament

The Gigabots had a good day at the Hudson Robotics Tournament Jan. 20.

 

  • 2148A were tournament champions
  • 2148C finished the tournament in second place
  • 2148H won the innovate Award
  • 2148G made it to the semifinals
  • All teams were among the top 10 all day

Here are more details: 

On January 20th, Greenville Middle School VEX Robotics Team, the Gigabots entered four teams in the Hudson Robotics “In the Zone Middle School Tournament” in Sachse. The Gigabots had a good tournament as all teams were among the top 10 all day.

  • Gigabots 2148A - Made up of Isiah Lowe, Emiliano Portello, Pablo Oropeza, Jr. and David Ortega completed the qualification rounds undefeated and in first place. They selected Team 1296A, the Half Metal Jackets from Rockwall and Team 6364B Hudson Hawks Robotics from Sachse to form the number one alliance. They lost one match in the elimination rounds to become the Tournament Champion.
    • Team 2148A also finished the Robot Skills Challenge in second place.
    • By virtue of becoming tournament champion, 2148A has qualified for the CREATE U. S. Open Championship - VEX Middle School Division in Council Bluffs, IA, April 5, 2018 through April 7, 2018.
  • Team 2148C - Consisting of Andy Shields, Angel Gonzalez, Jared Pastor-Parra and Daniel Wofford finished the elimination rounds in eighth place. They joined Team 23310D, the Robo Rascals from Cain Middle School in Rockwall and Team 97884A, Tesla from Garland to form the number five alliance. They were tournament finalists, which means they finished the tournament in second place.
    • Team 2148V also finished the Robot Skills Challenge in fifth place.
  • Team 2148G - Whose members are Lukas Pride, Stenson Sanders, Kyle Pierce and Bently Love finished the qualification rounds in fourth place. They joined Team 6364A, Hudson Hawks Robotics from Sachse and Team 97864A, MPANCMS from memorial Path Academy NCMS in Garland to form the number two alliance. They were eliminated in the semi-finals.
    • They also were in sixth place in the Robot Skills Challenge.
  • Team 2148H - Consisting of Jaden Stewart, Riley Adams, Michael Crowther and Jesse James finished the qualification rounds in seventh place. They joined Team 6364C, Hudson Hawks Robotics from Sachse and Team 98321C, Delta-o from Webb Middle School in Garland to form the number four alliance. They were eliminated in the quarterfinals.
    • Team 2148H also earned ninth place in the Robot Skills Challenge.
    • 2148H also received the Innovate award. This award is given to a team that has demonstrated a strong combination of ingenuity and innovation in designing their VEX robot. This award recognizes a specific, unique feature on the team’s robot that exemplifies thinking outside of the box and innovative engineering design.

The Gigabots next compete in the North Texas VEX “In the Zone” Regional Championship in Greenville on Saturday, February 24th.
