You've goat to be kidding!

Travis Elementary students recently had a special visitor, Cabo the Goat. Cabo came to Travis to share his real-life inspired book, The Adventures of Cabo the Goat: Cabo Moves to the Ranch. Cabo was accompanied by his owner and the author that captured his story, Kathleen Sullivan Hooten. Kathleen and Cabo are from Commerce, Texas. Kathleen is a former science teacher with an extensive background in animal science. Cabo began his time on the Hootens’ Shady H Ranch as their son’s show goat. Cabo’s humorous antics soon inspired Kathleen and became the inspiration of her children’s book series, The Adventures of Cabo the Goat. Cabo’s school visits not only encourage students to learn more about reading and the writing process, but they also help students build real-life connections.

Travis Elementary students were thrilled to meet Cabo and a real-life, local author. During the presentations, students in grade K-5 were able to meet Cabo, hear his book read aloud, see pictures from Cabo’s life on the ranch, and ask the author questions about her journey to become an author and about Cabo. Following this exciting experience, the students at Travis Elementary participated in a writing contest where they wrote about what they learned and enjoyed the most about getting to meet Cabo. This project helped encourage students to share their own writing process and celebrate a unique learning experience. The winners will receive autographed copies of Cabo’s book.

Students were also excited to hear the announcement that the second book in the Cabo series, The Adventures of Cabo the Goat: Cabo Goes to the County Fair, is hitting shelves soon!
