It may be summertime, but the classrooms are still buzzing across Greenville ISD.

 

Summer provides a time for teachers and other employees to slow down and engage in deep learning that will benefit students when they return in August.

 

Workshops range from "Teaching with the Brain in Mind" to "Death of the Worksheet" and "Cybersecurity Essentials."

 

"Professional Development is one of the most important aspects in building a district's culture and climate," said Continuing Education Coordinator Rebekah Jacobson. "In education, we are lifelong learners. When teachers are inspired and energized by new learning, that carries on to our students. 

 

Teachers aren't the only ones who engage in in-depth learning during the summer. From office support staff to administrators and bus drivers, employees sharpen their skills and acquire new tools. They also learn as teams. For example, in July, elementary campus teams will come together to study "Capturing Kids' Hearts," a nationally recognized two-day training program that provides strategies and training for teachers to connect with students and help them reach their potential.

 

And this week, Greenville ISD is a learning hub for educators from the entire area. The Region 10 Education Service Center is bringing its Summer Roadshow to Greenville. Teachers from surrounding districts are attending workshops led by some of the best educational experts in Dallas/Fort Worth.

 

"We are honored to welcome our colleagues to Greenville," Assistant Superintendent Sharon Boothe said. "We've heard so many comments from teachers who are not only enjoying the wonderful workshops, but also this terrific city. It's a feather in our cap that Region 10 chose us as a Roadshow site."
