Welcome, new teachers & other employees!

The first day of school may be weeks away, but Greenville ISD's halls are already buzzing with new learning.

New GISD employees jumped on big yellow buses and took a grand tour of Greenville, getting an overview of the district and learning fun facts about this special community. There was lots of laughter and learning as they went by every campus and toured the CTE wing of Greenville High School.

Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins greeted new teachers and other employees during this week's orientation process.

"Welcome to the Greenville ISD family, and congratulations! You are in a special place. On average, 50 or more people applied for each opening, so just the fact that you're here shows that you are great at what you do," he said. "It is our top priority to find the very best people to work with our students every day. We are a team, and all of us working together for the benefit of GISD students is the perfect recipe for success."

Some fun facts new employees learned and exchanged during their bus tour of Greenville:
  • A glimpse of every campus, including a brief history and a bit about their principals.
  • Where to eat and explore: We drove through old and new areas of interest, including historic downtown, Wesley Street and shopping areas and restaurants along I-30. Debates ensued about where to find the best burger in town.
  • Sports talk about Byron Bell and John Franklin, who are making their mark in the NFL, playing for the Packers and the Rams, respectively.
  • Spirit talk about the Flaming Flashes, the very first precision dance and drill team in the country. There were a few former Flashes on the buses who recalled their days on the field.
  • The many ways Greenville citizens treasure and preserve their history.
  • How Greenville's churches and businesses, including L3 and Innovation First, support the district through volunteer programs and financial support.
  • Innovative initiatives for students, including the new Early College High School, Forever a Lion and Growing up Bilingual programs that go above and beyond the standard academic offerings.
