GEEF grant speeds up digital classroom

In this age of online learning, the need for speed is more pressing than ever.

That's where GEEF comes in. Thanks to a generous GEEF grant, the GHS English Department received a grant was able to buy 58 solid-state hard drives for laptops that are assigned to students. The new drives cut the lag time and allow students to log in quickly and get right to work!

“The direct impact on student success is remarkable,” said English III teacher Mark Fake.

Since all classwork is online, reading assignments, quizzes, essays, and tests are quickly completed in class using the individual workstations.

Junior Anthony Aguilera says having his own classroom laptop is preparing him for the future.

"I like not having to keep up with paperwork, and using the laptop for work makes me feel more organized and professional," he said.

Classmate Joshua Wooster also prefers the digital classroom to stacks of textbooks and notebooks.

"I like not having a bunch of class supplies to carry around and I always know where my work is - on my computer," Wooster said.

The paperless classroom is a huge plus for the teacher, Mr. Fake says. He is able to efficiently monitor student progress, view their work in real time and individualize their needs.

Thank you, GEEF for making this possible for our kids!
