GISD welcomed a crowd to the Second Annual Golden Lions Lunch Oct. 25 at Greenville High School.

Student Council President  Yeonsoo Jung and Vice President joel Redmond and the Flaming Flashes welcomed guests, and talented student musicians sang and played the mirambas. The JROTC unit presented the color, and culinary arts students prepared a delicious lunch of sandwiches, tabbouleh salad and pumpkin pudding with spiced crumble and whipped cream. District principals and other leaders put on aprons and served lunch. GHS Principal Heath Jarvis rocked the fashion world with his red chef's hat.

Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins presented a State of the District update, and Director of Community Outreach David Gish told the crowd about the many ways he and his team are serving our students and their families at the newly formed PRIDE Center.

One Golden Lion brought her 1960 yearbook to the gathering and shared stories with old friends and new friends alike.

"This is always a joyous gathering, and we can't wait for next year," Dr. Liggins said. "Our senior citizens support our students and our schools in so many ways. We love welcoming them to our schools as volunteers and guests. Today was a really special day."
