Celebrating GHS early graduates
Pomp and circumstance filled the CTE area at Greenville High School Dec. 20 when early graduates celebrated with friends and family. Twenty-five GHS students have completed their required credits and are graduating a semester early.
A couple of the students shared why they decided to graduate early:
- Mandy Ryan: “I am ready to get my career started. I plan to start at Paris Junior College this spring for prerequisite classes then transfer to UT-Tyler and pursue a degree in nursing.”
- Irelant Jones: “I want to work full-time at Brookshire’s until I turn 18 and then get my own apartment. I also want to work at L3 someday.”
- Francis Carreon: “I have a plan! I start January 19 at Collin County Community College and study Criminal Justice. I would like to be a correctional officer and then I’d like to be a bailiff in a court of law.”
GHS teacher Tina Pitt organized the special recognition and reception for the students.
“I wanted to make this special for these early graduates,” Pitt said. “At first I was going to do something just for the students in my class then I realized they were all mine so I decided to make it big. I wanted to have Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins and Assistant Superintendent Sharon Boothe come and be able to congratulate these students for their hard work and perseverance to finish early. I plan to make this a tradition going forward.”
